Middendorf Breathexperience Work
Middendorf Breathexperience is a self-healing somatic art form. What distinguishes this form of breathing work from the family of breath oriented practices, is that one seeks to allow the breath to come and go of its own accord. This very simple description of letting the breath come and go of its own accord is what defines the nature of this breathing practice.
The joy derived from an easeful breath simply makes one's living better.
Despite any particular realities of limitation, be it physical or otherwise the bodily sensing of the movement of the breath offers a refuge of focus, to a wholeness where the totality of body-mind-spirit can be tangibly accessed. This is because breath encompasses body-mind-spirit.
Simple movements and principles afford access to the coming and going of breath without interference from the will which makes it possible to get to know this natural breath and our natural breathing rhythm.
On face value, this sounds absurdly simple minded and unnecessary. 'Who needs anyone to teach them how to breath?' And in answer-- to my mind, no one. And this is precisely the point. The issue is not that someone needs to be taught to breathe; the issue is that one needs to become familiar and get to know this natural breath. One needs to befriend this breath.
Prior to receiving a hands-on breath session and with some slight apprehension towards what she might experience, my sister-in-law asked me, 'Can I fail this breathing?' And I can only answer that academically speaking one might only 'fail' natural breath work, if one was to sleep or check-out for the process. Other than that, there is nothing anyone could do 'wrong', the natural breath is tritely a learning experience with a learning curve.
Ilse considered the natural breath to be a guiderope through and for the journey of life. A reliable never abandoning resource and helper. And once one has an adequate acqaintance with this breath (the length of acquaintance time being different for each individual); the breath becomes just that, a guiderope to the other bank.
There are 3 modalities with which one can become acquainted with the natural breath. Breath and movement work, vowel space work and hands-on individual breath sessions. These are conducted either in a group context or individually. They all uniquely afford the opportunity to take away a learning of the meaning of this breath for each person.
